DURHAM, NC -  The Ralston firefighter who recently had a double-lung transplant says he'll be able to return to his job in about year.

We talked to Michael Bramhall Tuesday morning from his hospital bed.

While the surgery was a success, he says the first days following it haven’t been easy.

"There's been a lot of painful days,” he says.

Earlier this year, Bramhall suffered two collapsed lungs after a lifetime of battling cystic fibrosis.

Now, he's recovering at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina, the same place where he had his surgery just over a week ago.

"Today, I had a chest tube removed, which always makes me feel better. And then, I passed my swallow test,” he says. Continue reading
