The routine has been interrupted at Megan and Ryan Rodriguez’s home in Rancho Sahuarita.
Ryan, who recently was put on a kidney transplant list, hopes it doesn’t stay that way for long. But he’s bracing himself.
Ryan’s kidneys are functioning at nine percent of capacity; 20 percent qualifies for a transplant, and 15 percent indicates end-stage renal failure. He’s beyond that.
He just spent nine days in the hospital, has mounting financial pressure, and is on leave from his job as a school psychologist for the Sahuarita Unified School District.
But right now what’s bothering Ryan Rodriguez the most is what some people would call the little things — sitting down to breakfast with his children every morning, making it all the way through a movie without being overtaken by exhaustion, braiding his daughters’ hair.
At 31, he’s used to being the go-getter, the involved dad who dresses up with his kids on holidays, takes them to school, and loves to dance and sing. All of that is on hold as Ryan fights for his life, and some semblance of normalcy for his family. Continue reading
