Donate Life Car Show and Health Expo raises awareness about the need for organ donors
Her fiancé was on the waiting list for a kidney transplant for six years and on dialysis (a treatment that does some of the things done by healthy kidneys) for seven years.
“He had a rare blood type, so it’s hard when the blood type doesn’t match to get a donor,” Jimenez said.
Her husband never did get the kidney transplant and passed away three years ago, at the age of 41, she said.
In an effort to raise awareness about the need for organ donors, the Southern New Mexico Transplant Support Group will host its 10th annual Donate Life Car Show and Health Expo from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Young Park, 1905 Nevada Ave. The event will feature classic cars and trucks, hot rods, motorcycles, low riders, compact cars and trucks and more.
