IT has been more than 30 years since Kaye Hazell gave her daughter the gift of life, but now Jo is relying on an organ donation from a stranger to keep her here.
This week is DonateLife Week, which aims to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation in Australia.
Jo, of Lenah Valley, was four years old when she was diagnosed with kidney disease, and at age 16 she received a kidney from her mum that not only saved her life but gave it new meaning.
“Being sick was the only life I knew until I had the transplant and then I knew life totally differently – I didn’t know what I’d been missing,” she said.
Now aged 47, Jo’s donor kidney is wearing out and two years ago she had to be put into a coma after catching a virus. Continue reading
