EUGENE, Ore. - Today is Giving Tuesday and the best gift that anyone can give...is the gift of life.

Approximately 835 Oregonians are on the organ transplant list and waiting for a donor. Every ten minutes, a new person is added to that list and because of that growing statistic, the executive director of Donate Life Northwest says there's a dire shortage to keep up.

Every day, 22 people die while waiting for an organ transplant. What most people don't know is that one organ donor can save eight lives and one eye or tissue donor can heal more than 50 people.

The state of Oregon is more giving when you compare it to the national average - 75 percent of Oregon residents are donors, compared to the 52 percent national average. Continue reading
