Mason received a heart transplant Feb. 4, after enduring three years of declining health.
“I was always healthy. I got the flu and other normal things,” she said. “But I was shocked. I yelled at the cardiologist at the ER at St. Francis when I got the diagnosis of congestive heart failure. I shouted, ‘Why would you say such a thing to me?’”
CHF is a weakness of the heart that leads to a buildup of fluid in the lungs and surrounding body tissues. The enlargement of the heart and excess fluid make breathing difficult. Mason said her doctors don’t know why she became ill with CHF, but they suspect a virus attacked her heart
Now, almost a year after her transplant, Mason said she can do anything. Continue reading
