LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In the season of giving thanks, one Louisville man is particularly thankful. John Sparks was given a second chance at life on Thanksgiving Day 2015 due to an organ donation.
Now he's on a mission to recruit more organ donors to give the gift of life. "Someone had to die for me to live," said Sparks.
In 2007, doctors told Sparks he had a fatty liver due to complications from diabetes. "He kept saying that 'You know you need to do something about it' and I kept ignoring it," he said.
Neglecting his health finally caught up with him when he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. Doctors tried to slow down the decay, but eventually a transplant was the only solution. Continue reading
