She's 10 years old with a Christmas wish and plan to make it happen.

"I want to make kids happy," says Kylie Bush, a J.I. Barron Sr. Elementary fifth-grader.

It's the Friday before Thanksgiving, and she's discussing a service project for school. All the kids in Junior Beta Club are doing one.

But Kylie's project is personal. It means another hospital visit on Christmas Eve, only this time it's her choice.

Because of a rare birth defect that ultimately led her to develop short gut syndrome, Kylie's young life has been filled with hospital stays up to a yearlong. She's currently awaiting a multi-organ transplant that will give her a small intestine, liver and pancreas.

This Christmas Eve, Kylie plans to visit sick kids at Alexandria's two local hospitals and deliver Pillow Pets. Continue reading
