Families of organ donors gather at Nashville Zoo

The names of 150 Middle Tennesseans lost to illness, accident or a number of other factors slowly were read Saturday before a crowd of hundreds at the Nashville Zoo.

Nurses. Police officers. Civic leaders. Teens. Children.

Each an organ and tissue donor. Each living on in others through their sacrifice and generosity. One such name was Dazia Marie Kelton, who was 13 when she died suddenly from complications with asthma.

"It's been two years. It's still a struggle, but knowing that she did give life elsewhere helps me in that she lives on in this world," said mother Takeasha Vann.

The reading of the names served as a reminder that Dazia and so many other's like her sacrificed in their death to help others lives.The names honored during the Donate Life Tennessee event are meant to help spread awareness of the need for others to become donors. Continue reading
