David Shawgo, 56, of Wills Point received got a new shot at after receiving the gift of a heart transplant.
MINEOLA - Former strangers bound by heartache are planning to share Thanksgiving as friends embracing the gift of life.

Michelle and Leon Williams, of Mineola, lost their 22-year-old son, Todd, in a 2014 accident.

They donated his organs hoping to help others, but never expected the gesture would be so helpful in their own healing.

“My son had signed up to be an organ donor, and my first reaction was I didn’t want to do it,” Mrs. Williams said. “But we decided to abide by his wishes, and we are so glad we did.”

A grateful David Shawgo, 56, of Wills Point, received Todd’s heart and a new shot at life.

He reached out after the transplant to say thanks and found a family waiting with open arms to greet him. Continue reading
