Matt Marchand, Theresa LeBane and Jenn Bruno to be honoured Saturday for liver donations

A trio of donors will be honoured at a Canadian Liver Foundation gala in Ottawa on Saturday for donating their organs to strangers.
Two of those liver donors — Matt Marchand and Theresa LeBane — shared their stories with Hallie Cotnam on CBC Radio's Ottawa Morning on Friday.
LeBane began the process when her colleague in Kingston, a father of two, was in need of a transplant. Though she wasn't a match, she ended up donating part of her liver to a pediatric patient — and her colleague received a donation from a stranger.
Marchand, who lost a friend to cancer in his 20s, knew his liver would regenerate and was inspired to give someone a second chance. He also donated to a pediatric patient.
"There is a family, there are a lot of people behind every person who has a sickness, and so the idea of being able to help somebody in that situation, to help a family, was just something I could empathize with," he said. Continue reading
