National Donor Sabbath will be observed two weekends before Thanksgiving, November 11-13. We ask that you share this email and encourage your family, friends and associates to start a conversation about organ donation in their faith communities during this three-day observance.
National Donor Sabbath, November 11-13, is an opportunity for faith communities to share their views and provide information about organ, eye, and tissue donation. Most major faiths in the U.S. are supportive of organ donation and the individual choices of their members. Because people often turn to their faith leaders for guidance on important life decisions, including decisions about organ donation, National Donor Sabbath is an opportune time to educate others about the urgent need for organ donors.
You can help. Start a donation conversation with your faith leader and encourage him or her to address this lifesaving issue during the 2016 NDS observance. Offer your assistance in creating an event to educate members about the need for donors so they can make informed decisions. If time is an issue, just show this 5-minute video that packs a great deal of information into those few minutes: Organ Donation and Transplantation: How Does it Work? If you want help creating an event and obtaining materials, call on your local organ procurement organization.
Whatever you can do will provide hope to the 120,000 people in the U.S. waiting for a lifesaving donor organ. Thank you!
