MAUMEE, Ohio (WTVG) - The Hero Hustle 5k run and walk kicked off Saturday morning with a balloon release to remember organ donors.
Then superheroes, walkers and runners hit the pavement to celebrate the gift of life.
"My son was a lung transplant recipient two years ago so we are walking for him," Carol Davis said.
Carol, her daughter and their four-legged friend Dodger wore ‘Team Seth’ shirts to support her son.
"He basically was out of school for a few years and really had very limited quality of life. Now he is a thriving 17-year old who's running around with his friends having fun, got his driver’s license, he's back to school and having a great time,” Davis said. “It just makes such a difference in the recipients and the families lives. These people are so generous and so self-sacrificing that they make that kind of decision in their difficult time."
58-year old Byron Clark is a heart transplant recipient. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and doctors gave him six months to live. Continue reading
