#DancingForDanika aims to raise awareness of organ donation

HOWARDS GROVE, Wis. — If you ever meet Danika Newberry, you wouldn't know she's been given six months to a year to live. She's upbeat, happy and loves being around her friends.

But the 20-year-old's demeanor and apparent health hide something sinister: ventricular tachycardia. She learned of the condition earlier this year after she suffered a heart attack.

"Being a 20-year-old and being told you have a heart disease," said Newberry. "How do you handle news like that?"

The young woman started treatments and was put on the heart transplant list. After three more heart attacks, Newberry's doctor told her that she was too weak for surgery.

"She came back in the room, and told me I have six months to a year to live," said Newberry. "That's the worst news I could have ever received." Continue reading
