The mother of Xavier Brown created a floral portrait of him with healthcare providers at RUHS Medical Center in Moreno Valley.


From Riverside County University Health System: The mother of Xavier Brown worked to complete his floral portrait with healthcare providers at RUHS Medical Center in Moreno Valley on Tuesday. Below is her story.

Xavier Brown was a vibrant and joyful 13-month old in 2009 when the toddler suffered a blunt force brain injury. Days later, doctors at RUHS Medical Center in Moreno Valley had to break the tragic news to his mother that a massive stroke had left her little boy legally brain dead.

“I was young. I was devastated,” recalls Xavier’s mom, Kayla Fouse, a resident of Moreno Valley. She had just turned 23 at the time. “I had no idea how I would find the will to continue living. When we were initially approached about organ donation, I was dumbfounded. My son had not been gone more than a few hours and someone was asking to take away his organs. His eyes.
