Looney, who has been suffering from kidney failure, will undergo surgery early next week.
"The outpouring of support and kindness has truly been overwhelming," Looney said. "I want to thank my volunteer donor for this extraordinary gift and I look forward to seeing all of my colleagues in the General Assembly on the opening day of the legislative session."
Looney's office said that he has received calls from relatives, friends and some strangers who have all volunteered to see if they could donate the organ.
Looney, a 68-year-old New Haven Democrat who has long served in the state senate, has Ankylosing Spondylitis, a form of arthritis that impacts the neck and spine, his office said. Continue reading
