CARROLLTON, ILL. - A bad heart left an Illinois teenager sidelined from sports for years. So when she finally got a chance to play, her community made sure she knew they were there to support her.
Gabby Carroll was first diagnosed with a heart condition when she was two-years-old. Now 13, the Carrollton eight grader spent years traveling back and forth to the hospital, as her condition got better and worse.
This summer, she was put on the transplant list. She never expected to get a call less than two weeks later.
“I was going to help my dad do hay, like I was going to drive the truck, and then my sister comes screaming out of the house – Heart! Heart!” the teen remembers.
