XPRIZE has announced the launch of two new competitions aimed at solving two big challenges.
The Water Abundance XPRIZE focuses on harvesting clean water from the air using renewable resources, and asks participants to create a device that extracts a minimum of 2,000 litres of fresh water per day from the atmosphere, using 100 percent renewable energy. The cost can only be two cents per litre of water.
The winning team will receive a $1.75 million prize, and registration is open until March 31st, 2017. The top five teams will be selected at the end of January 2018, with the winner selected that August.
The second competition is the Anu & Naveen Jain Women’s Safety XPRIZE, which is challenging entrants to use technology to build a discreet system will let women alert authorities as well as the community if they are in danger.
It needs to be able to send out an emergency alert and send info to community responders in 90 seconds or less for less than $40 a year and be able to work in low-connectivity situations.
This competition has a prize of $1 million, to be awarded on 1st June, 2018. Registration is open until the end of February 2017, and again the winner will be chosen from five finalists.
