The Guardian and Observer charity appeal in support of refugees has now raised an astonishing £1.5m.

This makes the We Stand Together appeal the most successful ever Guardian fundraiser, surpassing the £1.477m raised in 2004 to help those battered by the Indian Ocean tsunami.
