Philadelphia proved any doubters accusing it of having "no heart" wrong.
In a competition that started last month to see which city could register more Pennsylvania residents as organ and tissue donors, Philadelphia emerged as the winner over Pittsburgh.
The competition, which involved the Philadelphia Gift of Life Donor Program and Pittsburgh’s Center for Organ Recovery & Education, began Nov. 23 with dueling trash-talking billboards— accusing the other city's football fans of having "no heart" — outside Lincoln Financial Field and Heinz Field.
“Philadelphia has shown that it has the most passionate and generous fans in Pennsylvania,” Howard Nathan, CEO of Gift of Life, said.
The exact number of new registered donors per city is being kept confidential, but Nathan said because of the competition the state “has the potential to save more than 500 lives and make a life-saving difference for 3,150 people in our state.” Continue reading
