Colorful, dedicated life ends abruptly, but he lives on through saving lives

Michael Nelson always told his daughter he was immortal and bullet-proof. And to Carly Nelson, he was. But after a metal beam struck Michael in the head at his job on Oct. 24, he was declared brain dead on Oct. 25.

His kidneys and liver saved three lives — which to Carly, makes Nelson’s idea of immortality true after all.

Michael learned his bullet-proof sentiment in the Marines. He had a colorful past, serving 12 years in prison. He followed a vigorous parole plan, moving to North Platte near his sister, working at a feedlot and later Frenchman Valley Produce in Wallace, where the accident happened.

He had looked forward to beginning salaried pay and, years down the road, planned a business flipping houses with Carly. Continue reading
