Hops For Hope Focuses On Organ Donation |
The event featured local brewers and winemakers, including more than 200 craft-style beers and dozens of varieties of wine. Food was also available for purchase, including brick oven pizza.
The emphasis, though, was on increasing the organ donor registry in Connecticut and around the nation.
Ciara Lowe, of LifeChoice, said Meyers' story highlights the needs for organ donors. Around 20 persons die daily waiting for a donated organ, she said. Rarely does LifeChoice hear from a family after a patient passes.
"They suffer alone. They lose a family member and they go off into the distance, " she said.
However, the Meyers family was determined to not only remember Kym, but to raise money and awareness for organ donations.
"They're really into this mission. They don't want another family to suffer like they did," Lowe said. "They want more people to come off the waiting list. They want more people to live longer, happier lives." Continue reading
