Dan Richardson has been thinking about – and working toward – this moment for the past nine years.

On Thursday morning, those efforts finally paid off: The Aurora man and his wife Lisa finally got to meet the 74-year-old Kansas City man who is alive, thanks to the kidneys he received from their small son Dylan, who was killed in a car accident at the intersection of Sullivan and Orchard roads in July 2007.

"There were hugs and tears everywhere," said Richardson in a phone call just hours after the emotional meeting with recipient Joe Van Dolah and his family at the Midwest Transplant Network in Kansas City.

"I was anxious, nervous before," added Lisa Richardson. "But within minutes, all that anxiety had left … it was pretty special." Continue reading
