DALLAS — The power of prayer brought Bonnie Meeder and Valarie Remmers together.

"God reached out, and I listened," Remmers said. "It's not like we're tight close friends or anything."

The two women and their families are members at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas.

"Our lives only intersected at church," said Meeder. "I think we'll be best friends now."

Meeder had been living with chronic kidney disease for years. She rarely talked about it to people outside of her family. By May, doctors told Meeder that her kidneys were failing, and she was on the verge of requiring dialysis.
