Ontario's Trillium Gift of Life Network has announced the intensive care team will receive an achievement award for members' work to support organ and tissue donations.

Quinte Health Care’s intensive care team will receive an award this month for members’ work in support of organ donations.

And while Belleville remains above the provincial average of people who’ve registered to be donors, there is much room for improvement.

The achievement award from Trillium Gift of Life Network, which oversees organ and tissue donation in Ontario, recognizes QHC’s first-quarter performance between April 1 and June 30.

Trillium chief operating officer Versha Prakasha said the work of local medical professionals “has definitely resulted in lives being saved” through organ transplants.

Twelve of 56 Ontario hospital corporations, including QHC and Kingston General Hospital, scored 100 per cent conversion rates. Conversion occurs when someone identified as a potential donor becomes one. The provincial conversion rate was 61 per cent. Continue reading
