A baseball signed by Michael Nolan still sits in the office of Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.

A few short months ago, it represented promise — the promise of a bright future for young man who had already made his community proud.

Today, it serves as a reminder of what could have been but for an absurd act of violence in the early hours of Sept. 18, 2015.

“Whenever someone is murdered in your community, obviously everyone has heightened awareness,” Spano said. “But when you have a personal relationship with that person, it tends to hit you square, right in the nose.” Continue reading
