At Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Mark Meade knew he would leave the hospital just one way — with a new heart. Machines and medications kept Meade alive as the days, weeks and months went by.

Then on June 4th, 2008, after four months in the hospital, Meade had his heart from a donor still unknown.

“I was given a second chance at life,” he said.

On Monday Mark and his wife Terry gathered at the Philadelphia hospital to celebrate Mark’s selection as one of one of 24 organ recipients who will ride on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float on New Year’s Day in Pasadena, California.

For Mark and Terry Meade, participating in Donate Life Rose Parade activities is the culmination of the couple’s years of support for organ and tissue donation. Representatives from the hospital as well as from NJ Sharing Network and Gift of Life Donor Program attended the hospital event. Continue reading
